…and what a treat it was.
35knots, getting up to 40knots at times, with small sets coming through and the whole of Bracklesham Beach to just the 4 of us, who made a last minute decision and said “stuff it, we’re going out”.
I must admit, that apart from a sketchy 30min session of crappy conditions yesterday, I hadn’t been in the water since November. No, just the rubbish offshore winds, snow and ice just stopped it happening completely, which has been the first winter in years that I haven’t been out at all.
How refreshing it was to get back out at the local spot at Bracklesham for a really good hour session after work, with the sun out, the water temp’s warm enough to not need boots or gloves and blasting around on kitesurf kit which I am loving. To feel those toxins leaving my system, and not having to worry about anything more stressful than “am I gonna gybe between this wave or the next”.
My choice of kiteurf kit for the conditions today were a 6m Airush Lithium 2010 kitesurf kite and the Airush Choptop kitesurf board, both of which suited me perfectly for the evening session, the kite performing incredibly well, and allowing me to become quite lazy with where I was positioning it when coming down the wave, as it just seemed happy to follow me around, regardless of where I went. The Choptop which had already proved itself yesterday as a cracking lightwind board, lit up in todays conditions, and is perhaps the easiest board ever to gybe, but still repsonsive in the smaller waves for some really nice and smooth turns, throwing buckets of spray.
I didn’t realise until I’d come in and was getting changed, how much I’ve missed that feeling after a good session, stood in the carpark with your mates, chatting about the conditions, how epic it was, how the gear performed and when the next possible day to get back out on the water is going to be. I hope that day will be tomorrow. And the day after.
